| One of the first islands of the New World, Flip Island is considered one of the safest islands of the New World simply because most of the time the village and civilians are located underwater, protected by a giant metal cage equipped with sea stone to keep water and sea kings out. The gravity of Flip Island is shifted while the island is upside down, thus allowing civilians to walk literally upside down. Once every 2 days for 10 hours, the island will flip right side up and the dome will open for civilians to do what they need to do while the island has surfaced.

Brownbeard then maintained control over the island. It is also most likely the island on which Basil Hawkins and his crew confronted Brownbeard upon entering the New World.

Roger offered Whitebeard the information on how to get to Raftel, but Whitebeard declined because of his own goals of achieving a "family" of crew members instead of reaching One Piece. This also indicates that getting to the island is not as simple as sailing to the end of the Grand Line.
